All you positive thinkers and Riley supporters really brought your A-game yesterday because shortly after posting the update I was delivered the best news since the day we walked through these doors.

Riley’s t-cell function is at 21%.

That sentence deserved it’s own line, hell it really should have been in all caps…let’s try that again.

Yeah, that’s better. What exactly does that mean?  I’ll hold all the medical mumbo jumbo and get to the point…it means we’re going home. Uh-oh…I just started crying…typing that out apparently made it more real. Oh man. We’re going home. Not today, not tomorrow, but soon. Those numbers were what we were waiting for…actually we were only waiting for function to get to 10%, Riley threw in the extra 11% simply because she’s awesome and knew Mom and Dad could really use the peace of mind those additional numbers give. Thanks kid. The discharge talk is no longer make believe. No longer dependent on results. It’s real. It’s happening. Ok, ok right quick it’s reality check time. Can things change? Yes. Things can always change. Numbers could drop, she could get sick or some other hurdle could position itself in front of us. That is and will likely always be the story of our life. But, this is what we have been waiting for. She’s working. Her immune system while still compromised is functioning and day by day, fingers crossed will continue to improve.

Yesterday after I got the news I looked at her and all of a sudden she didn’t seem so fragile. She looked stronger than ever. She smiled like she knew. Maybe that’s why she’s always smiling…she’s always known.

It’s crunch time. There is so much to do. If all goes to plan we are looking less than 2 weeks until we’ll be ringing that bell in the hallway. Let the head spinning commence. Please continue with the positive thoughts and prayers, we want smooth sailing, no suprises, no more bumps. Just home. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got some lists to make 😉 xoxo

  1. AWESOME!! (I am Shannon’s Mom and have been following your journey and sending best wishes behind the scenes.) You are an incredible writer and this journal is an amazing gift to your family, friends, and one day Riley. Riley (and Presley) are fortunate to have you and the rest of your family as you all have to deal with this challenging journey.

  2. So happy for you and your beautiful family! Your daughters are beautiful and this little one …she’s a fighter (as you are too Mama!). Prayers have been answered and I’m so happy you guys get to go home! Can’t wait to hear more and see Riley’s beautiful, smiling face! Congratulations again and we’re all praying and rooting for you!!
